I am quite happy not to see advertising. I follow another Italian learning site’s free daily feature that recently started with ads and they are really annoying, popping up all the time and blocking areas of the screen. Donations are a good idea when you just want to use one part of a service or course.

I also find advertisements useful for language-learning. Advertising professionals are experts in communication, so their product can be much more accessible than news articles or drama, even for, especially for, beginners and the lowest levels.

EasyItalianNews.com doesn’t carry advertising and is funded by donations. This is because the traffic to its website is relatively low (most people get the bulletins via email), so we’d be talking revenues of less than a hundred dollars a month, at best. Also because advertisers who would be interested in reaching EIN readers are likely to be our competitors…

Couldn’t advertising in Italian also be part of the education process. I often go to the resource newspaper articles for Easy Italian news and then I do read other articles and even listen to the advertising as I’m sure other readers do
