Today it seems “fixed” on all my devices, even the one that repeated twice yesterday. I didn’t change anything on this end, so I’ll just assume it was a “glitch” in cyberspace yesterday. 🙂 Glad it wasn’t an intentional change from EIN!

We’re not doing that Lucinda, it’s an issue at your end. Each bulletin of EIN is checked by multiple people, none of whom have identified the technical issue you describe.
Try listening on a different device. If it works normally there, then you’ll have verified that the problem is specific to your usual device.

We haven’t noticed a change, Diane, and as I replied to someone earlier we do not aim for ‘slow’ because it is counterproductive. We have a competitor that thinks differently, if that’s what you want. They’re not free, though.

I’ve been listening to every episode for the past few months. First I listen without reading just to see if I can figure out what the stories are about. Then I listen while reading. Initially there were some words I was mis-hearing, but the more I listen the better I get at figuring out the stories. And I learn more about what’s going on in the world than by reading The New York Times!!

When I began listening to easy Italian news ( 2 years ago or whenever it was that you started doing it ) I could hardly pick out any individual words never mind understand the news but now when I look back I can see how far I’ve progressed with my listening and understanding skills. Quite often I can understand all of some items and the ones I don’t understand completely I get the gist of. It really is worth just persevering with listening and over time you’ll realise how much you’ve improved.

Listen faster, maybe? You’ll get there, if you practice!

We use the term ‘easy’ because with our bulletins you get audio and text together, which is rare with broadcast media. Listening and reading at the same time, as suggested on our Advice page, should make the listening part manageable at approximately normal speed, which is the objective for most people. Students need to prepare for ‘real time’ Italian, as spoken, as heard on TV or radio.

Listening to ‘slowed down’ Italian is inadvisable, and not encouraged by language teachers who know what they are doing, even at beginner level. We don’t offer that as an option either, because it is a bad idea.
