The pronunciation of a foreign city’s name seems to me a triviality. The capable and considerate reader might have put the stress on the first syllable instead of the second, but so what? Italians pronounce it differently from English speakers anyway, with the usual long double ‘s’ sound. It isn’t important, and nor does its pronunciation here demonstrate a lowering of standards.
